SEO For Lawyers: 5 Tips To Keep In Mind

Are you a lawyer looking to generate more business? It doesn’t matter how good of an attorney you are, you’ll always want a steady flow of clients and search engine optimisation can help you with this. With that said, below are five SEO tips for attorneys that you should keep in mind.

1. Keyword Research
One of the best things you can do as an attorney looking to use SEO to help you gain a competitive advantage is to do keyword research. You want to find and use at least 2-3 keyword research tools or keyword discovery tools. These types of tools allow you to search for keywords and phrases, as well as give you insight into how competitive they are.

Find keywords relevant to your area of law and then checkoff ones that are low in competition. You could also choose moderately-competitive keywords. Make a list of at least 5-10 keywords that you will target.

2. Create Articles For Blog
Go through your list of keywords and choose one or two. Then you can create articles that are relevant to those keywords. Publish articles to your blog (create one if you don’t have one) at least 3-4 times per week and be patient. It can take a good six months to start seeing results via SEO.

3. Schema
Schema is a type of HTML code. Schema consists of a vocabulary of tags to make content more machine understandable. You want to use Schema in content such as pages that contain your phone number, emails, reviews and addresses to name a few. If you do not understand Schema or how it should be applied to your site, then contact an SEO professional and they will help you out.

4. Social Media Marketing
Social media marketing is a branch or offset of SEO, and many people consider social media marketing to be a strong part of an SEO strategy. That said, create a social media marketing campaign that consists of creating videos regularly that talk about your industry. Create PPC ads to target potential clients and post regularly to Twitter, Facebook and Instagram. All three of those platforms are very different from one another, so do cater your posts accordingly.

Pre-write your posts. Then publish them on a schedule. For example, if you create 14 posts for Facebook, then schedule 1-2 of them to be published over the course of the next week or two.

5. Local SEO For Attorneys
Local SEO is all about getting your business listed in Google’s local search results. Claim your profile on the site AVVO and claim your business listing on Bing and sign up for Yext. If you do that, then your law firm will eventually appear on many local websites. Doing all of these things can greatly improve your visibility in Google’s local search results.

If you’re a lawyer and you don’t feel confident with creating an SEO strategy, or you don’t have a lot of time to create one, then hire a legal SEO agency. Make sure you hire an SEO agency that specialises in providing search engine optimisation services to lawyers and legal professionals. They will ensure you receive a solid SEO campaign tailored to your law firm.
